Addiction has devastated many individuals. If you have people on your side to help and support you,, addiction recovery can be so much easier.
At More to Life Recovery near El Dorado Hills, CA, we want everyone struggling with addiction to know that they can get help. We’ve seen a lot of people going through the same struggle that you, your loved ones, or your patients are experiencing, and our program is designed to help.
Our program is an in-patient facility geared toward recovery from addiction, which includes a period that allows for detoxification and Medically Assisted Therapy (MAT) drug treatment for that addiction.
Our first priority is establishing stability with the ultimate goal of resolving any physiological dependency. In addition to MAT, our clients participate in evidence-based individual and group therapies including Cognitive Behavioral and Life Skills Therapy, Physical Fitness, as well as complementary therapies like aromatherapy, sonotherapy, and massage. We also have buddy and mentorship systems in place to help provide the social support our residents need.
If you, your loved one, your client, or your patient could benefit from this program, email us or add your name to our enrollment waiting list today.

MAT, Medication Assisted Therapy are USP pharmaceuticals available by prescription and only by specifically certified physicians. We believe the first priority in addiction treatment is physical and chemical stabilization with a prompt reintroduction to a safe, stable, supportive and loving environment. There are so many reasons not to want to do it. However, with MAT/MOUD It’s a relative cakewalk. The real difficulty is abstaining long term after that. More about that below.
MAT /MOUD is a fantastic evolotion in the treatment of addictions. We argue it is a critically necessary step without which many would be unable to resolve their addiction. At the same time, while MAT may be absolutely necessary for long-term success, it is not sufficient. That is to say optimal oucomes are found only when counseling and support is combined with MAT. The evidence is compelling for all counseling but especially so for Cognitive Behavioral, Dialetical Behavioral and Lifeskills Therapy. Once you and our doctor resolve the negative physical effects of withdrawal using MAT, the nightmare ends but the work begins. The second priority in addiction treatment is to support the client as they involuntarily wake up and face their reality. For most, absent of their drug of choice,, the rear view is filled with tragedy disappointment, mistakes, and isolation while the forward view is partially filled with boredom and loneliness, but only partially. Depending on how long your drug use career has been, and how much you’ve left behind because of it, the landscape un-filled by loneliness and boredom is simply vast and frightening emptiness. Sure, we can help you get off drugs using MAT. Sure we can help you look inward and to others for solace that may give you strength through counselling. But that only kills 6 hours in a 24 hour day. We’ll keep you busy. We promise. You’ll learn some new skills; gain a new outlook; meet some new friends. You’ll even have some fun along the way. We promise that as well.
Every morning twilight we wake up slowly, quietly, and peacefully. By sunrise, ablutions are complete and we dress in comfy gym clothes, make our beds, and tidy our belongings. We make our beds aNd side tables. Your counselor will meet you at your room to review these things and gather everyone in the main room for a brief morning meditation to reinforce your stated intention for the day. Fully awake now, the day begins in the yoga studio. Outdoor activities like a walk or hike are possible, weather permitting. A challenging hour of activity will be staff lead and approapriate for all levels of fitness, even those with injuries or other encumbrances.. Then it’s off to the showers for final ablutions, refreshment of clothing and a well earned but humble breakfast on the way to counseling in the classroom building. It’s like going to school except part time - only fours a day. Theres a few minutes break between hours one and two and another between hours 3 and 4 and there’s a light but delightful lunch between hours 2 and 3. Introspect is a sucky way to make a living so we try to make it light.
The day then continues with gardening / yard work, or cooking school / housework. Dinner time is next. It’s a highlight of the day. No boring food. We make cooking fun and help you learn how to do the same for yourself. After dinner we reconvene in the main room for reading and review of stated intentions. For those not exhausted and ready for bed by now, there are a myriad of avocations for fun, learning and personal progress. There are also a number of therapies who’s clinical evidence is less strong but never the less really help everything a lot like aroma therapy, massage, art, music. Things that are creative and things that are pampering seem to help life a lot even though the clinical evidence may not be overwhelming. The same can be said for things like fish, ponds, frogs and aquariums. So we have those too On the weekends we get away to Tahoe or nearby for all kinds of outdoor activities; everything you can imagine. Ever try zip lines ? Totally fun. Kayaking, sailing, s’more camping, hiking, cycling, speed boat. It’s all right in the back yard.
After your first week you are sure to see that there is so much more to life beyond drugs and even more than that beyond recovery. You will quickly feel welcomed and comforted and safe; loved and understood for the difficulty of this enormous task of saving your own life when you might not even be sure why.
While we are all professionals we are also recovering addicts ourselves. This leaves us highly empathetic but a little short-fused because we’ve seen (or used) every trick in the book. So while the first few days can be bumpy, you’ll come to find us as family…. well, new family. And then in a blink our time will be done and your new life will begin it’s next phase, which we’ll tell you all about and thoroughly prepare you for once you get here.
Good luck to you. We applaud your courage. If you are reading these words and you’ve gotten this far the it is finally time. Give us a try. We can help.
